Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to all of your questions

Do I have to attend the Virtual SEND Conference on the day?

We do suggest you attend the Virtual SEND conference on the day so you can take an active part of this brilliant event. You can also engage with the speakers directly via our chat console.

If things don’t go your way or you have an emergency (always the way), the videos will be made available shortly after the event finishes. You can watch them back at your leisure.

Will it be accessible in my school?

We have done a lot of research into which platforms are accessible in schools around the country. We get that schools need to be secure, and this can mean that lots of things get blocked which are out of our control.

Vimeo

We have chosen to use Vimeo’s streaming platform to deliver our conference live on the day and to supply the videos after the event. Vimeo is a trustworthy platform providing a wide range of content which is used as a valuable resource within schools and is generally not blocked.  Videos are embedded on this site and these are streamed from Vimeo.

If you can’t access Vimeo, then you need to contact your network team and ask if they can allow Vimeo in your school. You can test whether it is blocked by going to our channel and trying to play a video here.

Will I be able to talk to the speakers on the day?

We provide delegates with the option of joining a chat room (without having to sign up) so that on the day, you can ask questions. We try to deal with as many questions as we can. At the end of each session, we ask your questions.

We can’t promise we will have time to get through all the questions but we will try our best!

Do I need a webcam and microphone?

No! Delegates will not need the use of a webcam or microphone to attend the conference on the day.

If you want to come in your pyjamas, please feel free. If you are in school though, then you might want to wear what you normally wear.

What is for lunch?

The best we can do for your lunch is provide you with a picture of lunch.

virtual send conference lunch

Obviously this won’t be enough sustenance on the day, so bring your lunch with you on the day of the Virtual SEND Conference. If you are not happy with your lunch, then you only have yourself to blame :p

Can I pause the stream on the day?

Yes you can! If you need to nip out quickly, you can press pause and pick up where you left off.

Don’t pause for too long or you might miss the start of next stream. So keep an eye on the clock.

Can I download the videos?

Unfortunately not. Copyright issues stop us from making this possible. You will be able to access the events via this site and stream them.

How many people can log on at the same time?

A ticket to the conference covers the school and the staff within the school. To prevent abuse we have some safeguards in place. Currently there can be 5 logins for the same account at the same time. If this is going to be an issue for you, please contact us to discuss this.

All we ask is that you don’t share your login details with people outside of your school. The only way we can deliver our conference at the price we do is by getting as may people as we can to come to it. Sharing login details jeopardises the future of the conference.

Instead, why not share the great work we are trying to achieve with the Virtual SEND Conference. Let people know what fantastic value our conference is.

What if I want to find out more from a speaker?

We’ve all been there. Watch a great session, get lots of questions answered. You learn loads, but even so, you still have more questions. So what can you do?

Well, each speaker provides their contact details during the session (unless they expressly request that they don’t).  You always have the chance to follow up with the speaker directly after the event.

Our speakers are from a range of settings and businesses. It is worth remembering that a speaker may be from a school. They are there to share good practice (Rochford Review Recommendation 7). So they may be less able to respond as they already have full workloads. You may need to be a little patient for a response.

I've only just found out about the Virtual SEND Conference and I've already missed events, what can I do?

Missed an event? Like the look of the schedule and the talks? You can still purchase access to the videos after the event has happened. It may not give you the live experience of being there virtually on the day but you do get access to the content to watch at you convenience.

You can see all our upcoming and past events here

I want to speak at one of your conferences, how do I go about this?

Got something valuable or important you want to share? We are always looking for speakers on a broad range of topics at the Virtual SEND Conference. You can contact us directly to discuss. If it fits in with an upcoming conference, we can look at getting you a slot!
